How to take a screenshot
A screenshot is a picture of what is on your screen. Attaching one to your support ticket shows us exactly what you see, including error messages, which often saves a lot of back-and-forth.
Windows 10 and 11
Capture part of the screen (recommended)
- Press Windows + Shift + S. The screen dims and a small toolbar appears at the top.
- Drag to select the area you want, or choose the window or full-screen option on the toolbar.
- The screenshot is copied. Paste it with Ctrl + V directly into an email or the ticket message, or click the notification to open it in Snipping Tool and save it.
Capture the whole screen
- Press Print Screen (sometimes labeled PrtScn or PrtSc). On Windows 11 this usually opens the same selection tool as above; on other setups it copies the full screen so you can paste it.
- Press Windows + Print Screen to save the full screen automatically to Pictures > Screenshots.
On some laptops you may need to hold the Fn key together with Print Screen.
Mac
- Command + Shift + 4: drag to select part of the screen. Press the Space bar after this shortcut to capture a single window instead.
- Command + Shift + 3: capture the entire screen.
- Command + Shift + 5: open the screenshot toolbar with all options, including screen recording.
Screenshots are saved to your Desktop by default, with names starting with “Screenshot” and the date.
iPhone
- iPhone with Face ID: press the side button and the volume up button at the same time, then release.
- iPhone with a Home button: press the Home button and the side (or top) button at the same time.
A thumbnail appears briefly in the corner. The screenshot is saved in the Photos app, in the Screenshots album.
Android
- Press the power and volume down buttons at the same time for a moment.
- The screenshot is saved in your Photos or Gallery app, usually in a “Screenshots” folder.
Some Android phones offer other methods, like swiping with three fingers or a screenshot button in the quick settings panel.
Attach it to your ticket
- Support portal: when creating a ticket at https://support.elitechforce.com, use the attachments field to select the screenshot file.
- Email: attach the image (or paste it into the message) when emailing [email protected] or replying to a ticket email.
- From your phone: open the screenshot in Photos or Gallery, tap Share, and choose your email app.
Before sending, check that the screenshot does not show passwords, full credit card numbers or other private information. Crop it or cover that part if needed.
Tips for a useful screenshot
- Include the whole error message, including its title bar.
- If the problem takes several steps, send a screenshot of each step.
- A photo of the screen taken with your phone is fine if you cannot take a screenshot, for example when the computer will not start.
